Domtar Received FSC Recertification for Wabigoon Forest

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar announced that it has received new Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) recertification standard for the land it manages in the Wabigoon forest. The auditor had earlier recommended maintaining certification under the new standard, following a successful surveillance audit during the month of July this year. It must be noted that the rigorous new Canadian FSC standard is in replacement of the previous National Boreal Standard.

According to Domtar press release, the audit process had identified four minor non-conformance issues, all of which have been addressed with action plans that have already received approval by the auditing body. The Wabigoon forest was initially certified to the FSC standard in 2008.

The new comprehensive FSC standard for responsible forest management in Canada was launched after six long years of thorough consultations will all stakeholders. It addresses pressing issued threatening the Canadian forests today.
