SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The paper mill operations at Catalyst Crofton paper mill in British Columbia will face an extended curtailment. The operations are unlikely to resume before the end of November this year. The continued shutdown will mean that nearly 70 employees belonging to the mill’s paper operations will not return to work at least until end-November.

In a statement, the company noted that while market conditions continue to support the restart of its pulp operations, the curtailment of paper operations at Crofton is being extended to end-November. The company is working with its employees to mitigate the impact of the ongoing paper production curtailment. Also, it has been providing customers with alternative products from other company mills, including the Catalyst Alberni mill.
The company had initially announced temporary curtailment of paper operations for the month of July, which was later extended for August. The curtailment was extended for a third time till October. It must be noted that Paper Excellence had resumed kraft pulp operations at the mill earlier this month.
Earlier during the year, the company had announced its decision to invest nearly $50 million in the Crofton mill. A part of this investment is towards transformation of machine so as to produce stronger water resistant paper.
