Crews Extinguish Fire at U.S. Steel in Lone Star

Lone Star VFD responded with three trucks, including one tanker.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Crews in Lone Star put out a fire at U.S. Steel Thursday afternoon.

According to Lone Star VFD Chief Chris McCurdy, equipment at U.S. Steel caught fire Thursday. Around 1 p.m., McCurdy said crews were at the scene actively battling the fire.

McCurdy later said the fire was officially controlled just before 2 p.m. He said the fire was at an oil derrick holding pond in the back of the facility, which was near other equipment and small structures. Other than minimal damage to the outside of one of the structures, McCurdy said the fire did not damage anything outside of the pond.

Lone Star VFD responded with three trucks, including one tanker. Crews from Daingerfield, Jenkins and Ore City assited in the response.

Around 2 p.m., McCurdy said the fire was fully out, and the area was being monitored to prevent reignition.
