SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):The below report analyses the weekly price trends of scrap copper across various regional markets during the past week (January 10 to January 16, 2025) on the Scrap Monster Price Index.
The copper scrap prices in the region recorded mixed trend, when matched with the week before that. The prices of majority of the commodities edged higher, while the remaining maintained prior week’s price levels.
The biggest increase in prices over the prior week was witnessed in #3 Copper-Light Copper, whose prices edged higher from $3.81 per Lb to $3.95 per Lb. The other copper scrap varieties to record notable increase in prices include #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, which recorded price increases by 3.58% and 3.49% respectively.

The other copper scrap categories to witness jump in prices include #1 Copper Bare Bright, Copper Radiators, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, Romex Wire, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, Heater Cores and Cu Yokes.
The rest of the copper scrap categories held steady on the Index during the week ended January 16, 2025.
The prices of most copper scrap categories witnessed notable jump in the region. #3 Copper-Light Copper prices posted the biggest increase over the week.
The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing too increased significantly over the week.

Also, the prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright, Copper Radiators, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, Romex Wire, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, Heater Cores and Cu Yokes recorded increase as of the week ended January 16, 2025.
Meanwhile, Cu/Al Radiators, Alternator, Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Cu/Al Radiators/Fe, Scrap Electric Motors, Sealed Units, Starters and Xmas Lights held steady over the previous week.

The other copper scrap varieties to record notable increase in prices include #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, which recorded price increases by 3.67% and 3.58% respectively.

The prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright, Copper Radiators, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, Romex Wire, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, Heater Cores and Cu Yokes witnessed increase week-on-week.

In contrast, Cu/Al Radiators, Alternator, Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Cu/Al Radiators/Fe, Scrap Electric Motors, Sealed Units, Starters and Xmas Lights witnessed no change in prices during the previous week.
The copper scrap prices recorded increase over the previous week.
#1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery prices edged higher by 1.237% week-on-week to close at CNY 36,950 per MT during the week. The weekly price chart of the commodity for the week ending January 16, 2025 is given below:
The prices of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing also were up by 1.15%, when compared with the week before.
The #1 Copper Wire and Tubing prices recorded increase, rising from the previous week by 1.13% as of January 16, 2025.
All the other commodities such as #1 Copper Bare Bright, Heater Cores, Cu/Al Radiators, #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu Yokes, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, Scrap Electric Motors, and Sealed Units also reported marginal increase in prices on the Index.
The scrap commodities in Indian market recorded increase, upon comparison with the previous week.
The copper heavy scrap and copper armeture scrap prices recorded the biggest jump, with the prices of both commodities recording increase by 1.37%. The weekly chart depicting the price movement in Copper armeture is provided below:
The prices of copper cable scrap also inched higher on the Scrap Monster Index.
Also, the prices of Copper utensil scrap and Copper wire bars (HCL *) increased during the week ending January 16, 2025.
The prices of all copper scrap commodities such as #1 Copper Bare Bright, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, Braziery Copper, Copper Dry Bright, Copper radiators and Copper Tubes held steady during the course of the week.
The closing price of LME Copper 3-Month contract stood at USD 9,245 per tonne as of January 16, 2025. The LME Copper Cash Settlement contract prices increased marginally from $9,020.00 a day before to $9,135.00 per tonne.
The LME Copper stocks saw marginal decline over the previous day to close at 260,250 tonnes of January 16, 2025, when compared with 260,750 tonnes a day before.
