S Korea's CRC imports declined sharply in Aug '14: KOSA

SEOUL (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by the Korean Iron and Steel Association (KOSA), the country’s CRC imports declined significantly during the month of August this year. Korea imported 36,100 tons of CRC in August, 35% lower when compared with the imports during the previous month.

The main exporter of CRC to Korea during August this year was China. The CRC imports from China totaled 29,000 tons, constituting nearly 80% of the total CRC imports by Korea during the month. The imports from China slumped nearly 40% over the previous month.

The cumulative CRC imports by Korea during the initial eight-month period of the year totaled 440,300 tons. The imports were 18% higher when compared with the imports during the corresponding eight-month period in 2013.

Meanwhile, Korea’s CRC exports too declined during Aug ’14. The August ’14 CRC exports totaled 286,700 tons, 10% lower when compared with the previous month.
