Cascades, Resolute Ranked Among Canada’s Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cascades, Inc. and Resolute Forest Products (RFP) have been featured in the 2019 list of Canada’s Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders. The list was announced last week by Research Infosource Inc.

Cascades, Inc. was ranked 65 on the list. The company spent a total of $30.8 million on R&D during the previous year, although the spending has seen significant fall by 31.5% from 2017. Incidentally, Cascades’ R&D Centre in Kingsey Falls, Quebec hosts nine laboratories running several projects aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the industry.

Meantime, RFP ranked 79 in the list. The company improved its overall R&D spending by 8.3% from 2017 fiscal to $15.6 million in 2018. In May this year, the company had inaugurated a bio-refinery plant at its Thuderbay, Ontario pulp and paper mill, in collaboration with FPInnovations. RFP is currently engaged in a joint venture project with Mercer International and Performance BioFilaments towards developing commercial applications for cellulose filaments.

Canada’s Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders list recognizes companies for financial commitments towards enhancing the country’s global competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
