Cascades Launched Fresh Sustainability Action Plan

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cascades, Inc announced launch of its fourth sustainability plan. The plan titled “Driving Positive Change” is being launched after almost a year of consultations with stakeholders. The plan includes as many as 15 defined targets for 2025 and 2030 and is based on four important pillars- Respectful of the Planet, Solutions Driven, Community Minded, and People Focused.

The plan proposes several targets to reduce its environmental footprint. It targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions of paper manufacturing plants by 38.7% by 2030, when matched with the 2019 baseline. Also, Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 22% by 2030. The plan commits to source 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and to achieve 15% reduction in paper mill water effluents by 2025.

Cascades Inc. aims to have 100% of the packaging manufactured and sold by it to be recyclable, compostable or reusable. Also, 100% fibres used to manufacture products will be recycled or certified by 2025. The company targets 50% reduction in number of lost days due to work accidents. Furthermore, all employees will be trained on unconscious biases related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
