Cascades, Inc. Declares Full Support to Quebec’s New Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cascades, Inc. announced full support to Quebec government’s recently announced $30.5 million recycling program, aimed at boosting the province’s recovery chain.

According to company press release, it is heavily involved in the recovery system in the province. It uses 83% recycled materials in its entire manufacturing chain. It collects huge quantities of paper fibers which are then used in manufacture of new products. The company has set up sorting centres across the province, which collects fibre.

Mario Plourde, president and CEO of Cascades noted that the company could contribute to the province’s efforts by enhancing the quality of materials that come out of the sorting centres. It intends to support Quebec’s attempts to stimulate the circular economy through development of new markets and increased awareness among citizens. Cascades will work with the government and other industry stakeholders in deriving a sustainable solution to recovery and recycling issues, he added.

As per the new program, slated for 2022 implementation, packaging manufacturers will be held responsible for the recovery, sorting and recycling of their own products. Effective 2025, the companies that do not meet the new recovery and recycling targets will have to face fines.
