Canfor Announced Reduced Operating Schedules at Sawmills

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Canfor Corporation has announced continuation of reduced operating schedules at its Western Canadian sawmills, owing to ongoing global supply chain challenges. It must be noted that the company has been operating at approximately 80% of its full production capacity since late March this year.

The company will implement two weeks of rotating downtime across its primary sawmills during the months of July and August. This will help align production capacity with the sustainable timber supply and transportation availability. The downtime at the mills will be utilized to complete maintenance projects and other site activities, in such a way that it will have minimal impacts on employees.

The above capacity reductions are likely to lead to incremental impact of nearly 275 million board feet by end-August this year. This is in addition to the 100 million board feet reduction announced in end-March 2022. The Western Canadian sawmills are expected to resume normal operating schedules following summer downtime.

Don Kayne, President and CEO, Canfor said that the limited ability to transport products to customers has resulted in very high inventory levels. The company is working hard to bring its inventory levels back to balance by reducing its production, he added.
