BSRM Used Innovative Technology to Lift Melt Shop Capacity

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Bangladesh Steels Re-Rolling Mills Ltd. (BSRM) has recently achieved big advancements in electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking, thus making Bangladesh a major destination for ferrous scrap shipments from different parts of the world, especially from North America. The company has employed innovative technology to achieve steady increase in melt shop capacity.

According to Aameir Alihussain, Managing Director, BSRM, the company continues to be the leader in market share, in terms of ongoing and upcoming large infrastructure projects. The steel industry as well as the company has grown along with the country’s economy over the years, he said. The company still depends on imported scrap, although local scrap generation has improved a lot.

BSRM is focused on upgrading its existing capacities. In addition, it plans to expand its operations through a rolling mill project that it expects to commission in around two years from now. The company will keep upgrading as and when it feels the necessity, based on prevailing market conditions.

BSRM expects a totally uncertain market for scrap this year. The scrap availability has been impacted badly due to the ongoing pandemic crisis situation in developed countries. The scrap market stability and normality could return only after the pandemic comes under control, said Alihussain.
