Also, the panel will highlight the growing influence and initiatives of the Young Traders within BIR.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The BIR World Recycling Convention and Exhibition, BIR Valencia 2025, will host a plenary session that aims to provide an introduction to the London Metal Exchange (LME) and hedging. The session will be chaired by Josh Brough, Chairman of the BIR Young Traders Committee. It will be held on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, 15:30-16:30.

The session will bring together LME users and experts, according to a news release from BIR. London Metal Exchange (LME) Product Specialist for Steel and Nickel Alberto Xodo will describe how the LME operates. The BIR Young Traders Committee member Ben Laszlo will then give a useful rundown on the rationale and practicalities of financial hedging, particularly as it relates to futures trading.

Additionally, Lucy Thomas from the Young Traders Group, who has worked in the raw material procurement and trading business for more than 8 years, particularly in the area of aluminum scrap, will give instances of how the LME is used in practice in the sector.

Following the aforementioned presentation sessions, there will be a lively Q&A panel discussion where attendees can ask any questions they may have on the risk minimization tools, pricing, and LME. The panel will also discuss the Young Traders' expanding activities and impact inside BIR.
