Imports of Turkish Steel Billet Surge By 103% in May Over April

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): According to Turkish Statistical Institute, Turkish steel billet and bloom import volume of May increased by 35.73 pct year on year to around 428,829 tonnes and it is 103.26 pct up by that of the previous month.

The total value of imports reported was about USD 227.23 million. It is increasing by 28.19 pct year on year an increased by about 100.65 pct when compared to that of previous month.

Turkey has imported about 1.31 million tonnes of steel billet and bloom in the first five months of this year, increased by 2.7 pct with a value of about USD 705.75 million surging by 3.4 pct both year on year.

Turkey has imported about 794,612 tonnes of billet and bloom from Ukraine in the first five months which ranks Ukraine first among the sources of Turkey’s main billet and bloom. It is 14.75 pct higher by year on year basis. Russia has supplied 399,080 tonnes in the given period, up 9.22% YoY, makes the second position.

Meanwhile, Ukraine was also the primary source for Turkey's billet and bloom imports, by supplying 240,807 tonnes in May this year, up by 37.45% year on year.
