SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): BHP has reached an agreement to sell its copper assets in Brazil to CoreX Holding in a deal worth $465 million. The announcement came along side its announcement of financial results for the full year ended 30th June, 2025. The transaction is in line with the strategic review carried out by the BHP in 2024.
The business and CoreX have a legally binding agreement in place for the sale of Carajas copper assets. Subject to the fulfillment of standard closing requirements, such as obtaining regulatory permissions, the selling transaction is anticipated to be finished by the beginning of next year. CoreX, however, chose not to comment on the news.
The agreement states that BHP will get $240 million when the transaction is finished. It will also get up to $225 million in contingent payments, which may start as early as 2027, subject on a number of project-related and production-related goals.
According to BHP, for the entire one-year period ending June 30, 2025, Carajas produced 9,400 metric tons of copper.
Due to impressive results from all of its operated copper properties, BHP's total copper production rose to a record 2,017 kt in FY25 for the third year in a row. On a consolidated basis, BHP anticipates that its group copper production will stay robust in FY26, ranging from 1,800 kt to 2,000 kt.
