BHP Extended Research Partnership to Decarbonise Steel Manufacturing

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Global miner BHP announced its decision to extend partnership with the Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research (CIMR) at the University of Newcastle. The company allocated additional funding of $10 million in support of ongoing research aimed at decarbonising steelmaking process.

The company press release noted that the expanded research program will focus on low carbon iron and steel making by adding hydrogen to conventional blast furnace iron making and by incorporating emerging alternative low carbon iron making technologies. The collaboration will last for a period of five years and will help train the next generation of researchers and engineers.
