B.C. Announced Boosted Investments in Support of Forest Sector

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The province of British Columbia (B.C.), in partnership with forestry manufacturers, has boosted investments to support expansion of forest products sector operations, which in turn is expected to support several thousands of sector-related jobs in the province.

Commenting on the development, Premier David Eby reminded that the forest sector businesses and employees have met with several challenges over the past few years. However, there exists seamless opportunities for sustainable forest products produced locally. The provincial government, in partnership with the sector, is currently making investments to enable transition to high-value product lines, he added.

B.C. has committed $70.3 million to forest-sector transition and diversification, under the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF), which has been specifically focusing on supporting B.C.’s wood-product manufacturing sector. The funding will support as many as 50 different projects, helping to create or sustain over 2,500 jobs in the sector.

For instance, Surrey-based A-1 Trusses Ltd. will receive funding support of $9.5 million, which will result in significant expansion and diversification of its product offerings. Also, this will create as many as 125 jobs.
