SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Barrick made a calculated move to bolster its Dominican Republic mine operations at Pueblo Viejo.

A press announcement from the firm states that Gisselle Valera has been named President of Barrick Pueblo, one of the top Tier-1 gold mines in the world. She will be the company's main spokeswoman with important stakeholders in her role as president. It further stated that she will answer directly to Barrick's COO for Latin America & Asia Pacific, Mark Hill.

Valera has over 16 years of experience in domestic and international transactions, government interactions, and energy regulation.

The company's dedication to promoting sustainability and innovation throughout its operations is furthered by Ms. Valera's appointment. It also confirms Pueblo Viejo as a foundation of trust, development, and progress for the Dominican Republic and its citizens.
Ben van Beurden was named the Board's Lead Independent Director by Barrick earlier in August of this year. He took over for Brett Harvey, who had been the company's Lead Director since 2013. The appointment was a component of its strategic plan to restructure the Board.

The Pueblo Viejo mine has paid more than $3.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes since production began in 2013.

The company employs nearly 3,000 direct employees and more than 4,000 indirect employees.
