ArcelorMittal Focused on Energy Savings During the Covid-19 Crisis

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The report published by ArcelorMittal- the Luxembourg-based integrated steel producer highlights the measures implemented at its facilities to save energy during the pandemic crisis period.

The company had idled many processes, in response to restrictive measures announced by various governments. The crisis had resulted in lower utilization rates at most of its plants. The company has successfully implemented treasure hunts by carrying out walk-throughs of facilities to look at possibilities of potential energy savings. Obviously, these have resulted in savings of millions of dollars.

The air leaks could be heard more clearly in a quiet atmosphere. This in turn helps in identifying the equipment that needs to be shutdown. The company noted that the energy savings campaign was conducted with the help of resources from the Department of Energy Better Plant program and the EPA Energy Star program. Necessary actions were taken at facilities to reduce the risk of flashbacks or leakages.

At the same time, steel continues to play pivotal role in supporting the fight against Covid-19. It continues to be a key component of innovative surgical tools, critical infrastructure and emergency vehicles.
