AISI: YTD U.S Raw Steel Output Continued to Soar

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 4.4% during the week ending on January 8, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.813 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 82.3%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.736 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 76.6% during the corresponding week a year before. Also, the weekly crude steel production increased marginally by 1.6% over the week. The production was 1.785 million NT during the week ended January 1, 2022.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 2.068 million NT through the week ending on January 8, 2022. This is up by 4.2% from the production which totalled 1.984 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 76.6% to 82.2% over the year.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 735,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 620,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-179, Midwest-200 and Western-79.
