AISI Works with USTR to Address Steel Sector Trade Challenges

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) congratulated Ambassador-designate Katherine Tai for being appointed by the Senate to serve as United States Trade Representative (USTR).

In a statement, Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of the AISI noted that Tai’s experience, dedication and willingness to listen to the concerns of labor and industry will allow her to be a champion for trade policies in favour of American manufacturers and their workers. He appreciated Tai’s recognition of the challenges facing the industry as a result of the ongoing global steel overcapacity crisis. AISI looks forward to work with her to address the trade challenges facing the industry, he added.

The Institute also congratulated the nomination of Michael Regan to serve as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In addition, AISI applauded Senate confirmation of the nomination of Gov. Gina Raimondo to serve as Secretary of Commerce.

Strong enforcement of U.S. trade laws is a top priority for American steelmakers, reminded AISI.
