AISI Welcomed Biden's Proposal to Fund Infrastructure Investment

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) welcomed President Joe Biden’s “The American Jobs Plan”, which proposes significant new funding for infrastructure investment. The American Jobs Plan is an investment in America that will create millions of good jobs, rebuild our country’s infrastructure, and position the United States to out-compete China.

In a statement, Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO, AISI noted that it greatly appreciates Biden’s commitment to building back better America’s roads, bridges, waterways, rail, electrical grid and other critical infrastructure by using American-made steel. The proposal continues strong domestic procurement preferences for federally funded infrastructure projects, which will boost purchases of steel and other products manufactured domestically, he added.

AISI reiterated its view that a dedicated user fee is the best way to fund infrastructure. It has been constantly supporting the need for bolstering the user fees that are dedicated to funding the Highway Trust Fund and other infrastructure funding mechanisms. This is essential to provide certainty in terms of funding to implement long-term steel-intensive infrastructure projects.
