SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Based on a comparison with the same week last year, U.S. weekly raw steel production fell by approximately 3.0% during the week ending February 8, 2025, according to the most recent weekly domestic production numbers released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Over the course of the week, the United States produced 1.675 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel. The utilization rate of the domestic mill capacity was 75.2%. It's important to remember that a year before, during the same week, production reached 1.726 million NT, with a somewhat higher capacity utilization rate of 77.7%.

The week ending February 1, 2025, saw 1.656 million NT of crude steel produced at a capability utilization rate of 74.4%. This week's production is 1.1% higher than this one.
The Southern region produced the most, with 747,000 net tons. The Great Lakes region produced 496,000 net tons throughout the week. The productions (in thousand net tons) of the other regions are North East-120, Midwest-250, and Western-62.
As of February 8, 2025, the adjusted year-to-date output was 9.209 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 74.2%. This represents a little 0.3% increase over the same period in 2024, when production was 9.186 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.4%.
