AISI: U.S. Raw Steel Production Dipped

The adjusted year-to-date production by U.S. steel mills until February 22, 2020 totalled 14.476 million net tons.

AISI: U.S. Raw Steel Production Dipped

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The raw steel production statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) for the week ended February 22, 2020 suggests marginal decline in output, compared with the same period in the previous year and prior week.

The U.S. raw steel production totalled 1.901 million net tons during the recent week. The capability utilization rate was 81.5%. The production in the corresponding week in 2018 was 1.917 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 82.4%.

The production edged lower marginally by 0.3% from the prior week. AISI noted that the prior week production had totalled 1.907 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 81.8%.

Meantime, the adjusted year-to-date production until February 22, 2020 totalled 14.476 million net tons. This was up by 1.1% from the production of 14.311 million net tons during the corresponding period in 2018. The capability utilization rate too jumped higher when compared with 81.3%.

The leading producer was the Southern region with an output of 712,000 net tons, followed by Great Lakes region with 688,000 net tons. The production by the other regions is as follows: North East (229,000 net tons), Midwest (203,000 net tons), Western (69,000 net tons).
