The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the initial six months of 2024.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates that steel shipments during the month of June this year witnessed significant decline when compared with the same month a year ago. Also, the shipments recorded marginal decline over the prior month.

According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.152 million net tons in June this year. This is down by 6.6% upon comparison with the shipments of 7.656 million net tons in the same month a year before. Also, the shipments during the month witnessed modest decline by 3.8% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled only 7.431 million net tons in May 2024.
The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 43.760 million net tons during the initial six-month period of the year. This is marginally down by 3.9% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 45.516 million net tons during January to June in 2023.

The shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet during this period dropped by nearly 2% over the previous year. The shipments of hot rolled sheet too were down by 4%. Meantime, cold rolled sheet shipments surged year-on-year, registering an increase by 4%, upon comparison with the initial six months of 2023, AISI report said.
