SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) suggests that steel shipments during the month of November this year surged higher when compared with the same month a year ago. However, the shipments recorded decline over the prior month.

AISI Revised 2023 Steel Shipment Data
According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.175 million net tons in November 2023. This is modestly higher by 4.1% upon comparison with the shipments of 6.892 million net tons in the same month a year before. On the contrary, the shipments during the month witnessed modest decline by 2.3% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 7.346 million net tons in October last year.
The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 82.256 million net tons during the initial eleven-month period of the year. This is marginally down by 0.4% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 82.568 million net tons during January to November in 2022.
The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the initial eleven months of 2023. The shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet during this period soared by nearly 1% over the previous year. The shipments of cold rolled sheet were up by 3%. Meantime, hot rolled sheet shipments surged the most, registering surge by 13%, upon comparison with the initial eleven months of 2022, AISI noted.
