AISI Board of Directors Announced Appointment of New Chairman

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Board of Directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced that it has elected Lourenco Goncalves, chairman, president and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. as its new Chairman. He will serve in the post for a period of two years. The election took place during the AISI’s General Meeting held recently at the InterContinental Hotel-The Wharf in Washington, D.C.

Also, Luca Zanotti, president of Tenaris USA has been elected as a new director on the AISI board. In addition, Leon Topalian, chair, president and CEO of Nucor and former AISI chairman, has been elected as vice-chairman, said AISI press release.

Commenting on the appointment, Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of AISI noted that Lourenco is a dynamic leader in the global and domestic steel industry and a vocal advocate for the industry in the public policy arena. AISI is grateful to have such an outstanding leader serving as its chairman. The Institute will continue to see many successes under the guidance and leadership of Lourenco, he added.

Meantime Lourenco said that he is honoured that his fellow AISI Board members have placed trust in him to lead the Institute. Furthermore, he assured to continue to fight to make sure that the American steel industry remains the backbone of manufacturing in America.
