AISI Appaluds Executive Order to Boost 'Buy America'

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) welcomed signing of executive order by President Joe Biden to strengthen Buy America and other domestic procurement programs that promote the use of American steel in federally funded projects. A statement to this effect was issued yesterday by Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO, AISI.

Dempsey noted that strong domestic preferences for federally funded infrastructure projects are essential to ensure that tax-payer dollars are used to procure American steel and other domestically manufactures products. This has also resulted in boosting manufacturing jobs in the country, he noted.

The executive order will tighten up the process of considering waivers to existing domestic preference requirements and will also increase domestic content requirements. Dempsey applauded President Biden for affirming his commitment to promote programs that ensure that taxpayer dollars are used for products domestically manufactures in America, most significantly the use of American steel.

As per recent studies, the U.S. steel industry has emerged as the cleanest and most energy-efficient steel industry in the entire world, Dempsey added.
