According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the world crude steel output by 67 countries reporting to the Association totaled 142.080 Million tonnes during the month of April this year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the world crude steel output by 67 countries reporting to the Association totaled 142.080 Million tonnes during April this year. The monthly output continued to rise by 5.0% when compared with the output during the same month a year before. These 67 countries accounted for approximately 99% of the total world crude steel production in 2016.

DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in April this year has surged higher significantly by over 8% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of April 2017 totaled 5.209 million metric tons, rising significantly by 8.05% when compared with the 4.821 million metric tons production achieved during March this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production during the month. India and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during April this year was 1.565 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in April increased modestly when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.443 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in April 2017 totaled 1.250 million metric tons, declining marginally by 3% when compared with the previous month output of 1.291 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in April this year amounted to 540,000 metric tons, which is slightly lower than 558,000 metric tons output recorded during March this year.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in April 2017 is as follows: Canada (152), Saudi Arabia (429), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (157), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (70), Egypt (308), Libya (69), South Africa (79), Qatar (235) and United Arab Emirates (353).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for approximately 85% of the global DRI production in 2015.
