US Steel scrap exports fell 3.85% during first half 2013

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster) : According to recent statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), the steel scrap exports from the country during the six-month period from January to June this year declined marginally when compared to the exports during the corresponding period in 2012.

The country’s total exports of steel scrap during the first half of the year 2013 amounted to 9.75 million mt. The exports during the period were 3.85% down compared to the total exports of 10.14 million mt during the initial six-month period during 2012.

The scrap export volumes saw a significant decline during the month of June. The total scrap exports by the country during June amounted to 1.4 million mt, down 34.5% over the previous month and also down by 9.5% year-over-year.

The largest export destination of US steel scrap was Turkey. The country’s exports to Turkey totaled 2.7 million mt during the first half of the year, up 0.9% year-on-year. Taiwan imported 1.6 million mt of steel scrap from the US during H1 2013. The exports to Turkey saw decline of 10.3% year-on-year. During the initial six-month period, scrap exports by the US to South Korea totaled 1 million mt, declining considerably by 37.7% over the previous year.
