ANKARA (Scrap Monster) : According to data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD), the country’s crude steel output declined sharply during the month of August this year.
The total crude steel output by Turkey in August totaled 2.58 million tons, lower by 8.7% than the output during July this year and also lower by 15.4% when compared with the output during August 2012.
During the month of August, Turkey’s crude steel production via blast furnace totaled 592,000 tons, falling by 7% from that of July and plummeting by 30.2% from the output during August 2012. The country’s crude steel output via electric arc furnace (EAF) during August totaled 1.98 million tons, down by 9.2% from that of July and down by 9.7% year-on-year.
The crude steel output by the country during the first eight-month period of the year too dropped significantly. Turkey’s cumulative steel output during the period from January to August this year totaled 22.8 million tons, falling by 5.4% year-on-year.
