Fire breaks out at King Highway metal recycling facility

DETROIT (Scrap Monster) : A huge fire that broke out at a Michigan scrap metal recycling facility is reported to have burned piles of scrap. According to media reports, cranes were used to remove the piles of scrap to extinguish the fire deep under the piles.

The fire occurred at Kalamazoo Metal Recycling site at 1525, King Highway. According to Kalamazoo Public Safety officials, the fire was reported at around 7 PM Sunday, May 25th.

It took almost an hour for the firefighters to bring the fire under control. The workers had to pull apart the pile of metal so that fire fighters could get into the origin of the fire. The firefighters remained at the site until nearly 10 PM. According to them, this is not the fire incident in the site and added that such fires occur regularly.

The air in the region was filled by thick black smoke. The smoke could be seen for miles. As per initial reports, there were no injuries or casualties.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities.
