SHANGHAI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the country’s iron ore imports in August increased year-on-year. However, the imports dropped from those during July this year.
As per Customs data, China’s total imports of iron ore during the month of August amounted to 69.01 million mt, higher by 10.5% year-on-year but down 5.6% from July imports. The country had imported 73.14 million mt of iron ore during July this year.
Australia was the main iron ore exporter to China during August. The total iron ore exports from Australia stood at 34.85 million mt, higher by 9.7% over the year but down 7.7% compared with the previous month.
The second largest supplier of iron ore to China was Brazil. The exports from Brazil to China totaled 13.59 million mt in August, higher by 10% over the year and 3.4% from those during July.
The iron ore imports from India shot up by 49% month-on-month in August to 755,939 mt from 506,322 mt in July. However, year-on-year, the iron ore imports from India saw a decline of 53% in August.
