Barge carrying scrap metal, recyclables and junk cars catches fire

KINGSTON (Scrap Monster): A barge belonging to Pascap Co. Inc. is reported to have caught fire aound 6 PM Wednesday on the Hutchinson River in Mount Vernon. The barge contained scrap metal, other recyclables and junk cars.

The firefighters from the New York City Fire Department responded quickly to the fire and managed to contain it to the barge. The fire has destroyed huge quantities of load. The fire department is waiting for the arrival of crane to remove the debris.

Pascap Co. Inc. offers wide range of recycling scrap services for a variety of materials and metals. The company has been serving the Bronx and surrounding communities for the past eight decades. They are one of the largest recycling scrap metal processors in the tri-state area. The company is located in 4250 Broston Road, Bronx, NY.

No injuries were reported so far. The company officials were not available for comment immediately, sources said.
