About Yard

Since 1990, Midwest Fiber Recycling has been Central Illinois’ leader in full-service recycling options. Originally known as Weyerhaeuser Recycling in Normal and Decatur Paper Recycle Co. in Decatur, Midwest Fiber Recycling focuses on providing creative and effective solutions for its clients’ recycling needs.

Today, Midwest Fiber Recycling operates facilities in Bloomington-Normal, Decatur IL, Springfield IL, Peoria IL, and Terre Haute, IN – and our service area extends throughout the Midwest. Combined, it owns more than 260,000 square feet of processing and warehousing facilities on 30 acres and process over 130,000 tons of recyclable material each year!

In an effort to further support the needs of its clients, Midwest Fiber Recycling opened an additional division in 2003: Confidential On-Site Paper Shredding (C.O.P.S.). C.O.P.S. provides on-site, secure document shredding services for businesses throughout the area, including, purging and media/hard drive destruction services.

In 2011, the company grew exponentially with the construction of a new $8 million state-of-the-art single-stream Materials Recovery Facility at its Normal, Illinois location as well as the development of a community composting program. The single-stream expansion enabled the company to increase participation and make recycling easier for its Central Illinois residents. The community composting program, in cooperation with Illinois State University, offers schools, restaurants and local businesses that handle food the opportunity to compost food scraps verses throwing them in the trash.

Midwest Fiber recently acquired Data Management Services in Terre Haute, Indiana. The acquisition will combine Data Management Service's expertise with Midwest Fiber's recycling capabilities. The companies' combined proficiences will also lead to near and long-term growth opportunities, creating more "green jobs," and diversifying the types of commercial materials that can be recycled.

As Central Illinois’ largest full-service recycler serving areas including Bloomington IL, Champaign IL, Decatur IL, Peoria IL, Springfield IL, and Terre Haute IN, Midwest Fiber Recycling specializes in helping our customers reduce waste costs, increase efficiencies and maximize dollars earned on their recyclable materials.

Residential Recycling

In an effort to make recycling easier and to increase participation, Midwest Fiber Recycling constructed a new $8 million state-of-the-art single-stream Materials Recovery Facility at its Normal, Illinois location. The 86,400 square foot facility serves as a single-stream recycling hub for all of Central Illinois. Single-stream recycling allows recyclable materials such as paper, glass, cardboard and plastic to be mixed, or co-mingled, in one container without being separated. With the capacity to handle all of your recycling needs, we encourage you to call 800-779-9677 to see how we can assist with your business's needs.

Why Single-Stream Recycling?

Single-stream recycling is where all recyclable materials are put together, or co-mingled, into one recycling stream of materials. Single-stream recycling makes recycling easier so participation increases to help sustain our planets future. At the Normal, Illinois facility, we now consistently process over 1 million pounds per week in single-stream materials alone!

Document Destruction

While Todd Shumaker and his brother Mike were busy taking care of the recycling needs of their clients at Midwest Fiber Recycling, they discovered many were inquiring about shredding or document destruction for security purposes. With these requests and the then-pending laws regarding information security, Confidential On-Site Paper Shredding (C.O.P.S.) was born in 2003.

Beginning with one truck in 2003, C.O.P.S. has grown into five mobile shredding trucks that shred up to 24,000 pounds per hour and are equipped with enclosed automatic bin tippers in order to eliminate any contact with documents before they are destroyed. Document Destruction 2The process is closely monitored by trained security professionals and customers may witness the entire process at their place of business.
