Mississippi Governor Signs Bill that Prohibits Third Landfill in Madison County, MS

That means the proposed NCL Waste landfill for Madison County is off the table unless Madison County residents OK the project.

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Gov. Tate Reeves has signed a bill this that prevents a possible third landfill in Madison County. Reeves signed House Bill 949 at Ridgeland City Hall. HB 949 passed unanimously in the Mississippi House and Senate last week. The bill prohibits any landfill from coming to a county with more than two landfills unless a public vote is held.

That means the proposed NCL Waste landfill for Madison County is off the table unless Madison County residents OK the project. The proposed third landfill in Madison County has been at the center of controversy for years. NCL Waste, LLC has been seeking approval from the state to place the landfill in an area in western Madison County. The proposed dump site is on North County Line Road near the municipal landfill.
