U.S. and Canadian Recycled Paper Companies Announce Facility Closures

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Three recycled material companies recently closed facilities. Two of the closures are due to long term business plans, while the third is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Verso Corporation will close paper mills in Duluth, MN and Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The closures are related to the market decline due to COVID-19 and a repositioning of the company. However, the company is investing in the conversion of part of its Duluth, MN mill from producing paper to recycled paper packaging, which will produce 90,000 tons of recycled products per year.

Cascades is planning to close its corrugated packaging facility in Burlington, Ontario due to continued company optimization. The company’s other plants will make up for the lost capacity.
