The Award of Excellence in Recycling recognizes “innovative and inspiring programs and leaders who have made a difference in Michigan.
SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): My Green Michigan, the food waste recycling company that is continuing to grow its operations throughout Michigan, announced that it received the Award of Excellence in Recycling at the annual conference of the Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) in May. The Award of Excellence in Recycling recognizes “innovative and inspiring programs and leaders who have made a difference in Michigan.”
“This recognition shows why residents and businesses of all sizes across Michigan choose to partner with My Green Michigan for their food waste needs,” said Cliff Walkington, Partner at My Green Michigan. “We’ve always believed that building a sustainable future happens when we work together as a community. Our food waste programs prove that we can turn everyday scraps into something valuable—rich compost that helps our soil, protects our waterways, and strengthens our neighborhoods. This award motivates us to keep making sustainability simple and impactful for everyone in Michigan.”
Since its inception, My Green Michigan has been expanding to meet the growing demand for sustainable collection and management of food waste and other organics, to ultimately transform organic waste into compost that can be utilized to regenerate soils by local growers and landscapers. My Green Michigan’s commitment to fostering partnerships allows for effective transportation, handling, and composting of food scraps and other organic waste from customers in every major city across Southern Lower Michigan.
Businesses and organizations that partner with My Green Michigan include Bell’s Brewery and Eccentric Café, Forgotten Harvest, HopCat, and the Detroit Zoo. In addition to a subscription cart service for both residential and business customers, My Green Michigan has partnered with several municipalities to offer free food waste drop-off opportunities at convenient locations, including Portage, Lansing, Meridian Township, Ferndale, Canton Township, Madison Heights, and Eastpointe.
The Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) is proud to have recognized the sustainability-driven efforts of organizations and individuals committed to diverting useful materials from our landfills. The MRC leads, educates, and mobilizes recycling-focused individuals and organizations to advance their own and collective resource use and recovery initiatives. “We’re grateful to the Michigan Recycling Coalition for this recognition and for their continued leadership in advancing recycling and sustainability efforts across our state,” Walkington said. “Their work helps organizations like ours connect with communities and make a real difference for Michigan’s environment.”
