LatAm Countries to Launch National E-Waste Management Strategy

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Thirteen Latin American countries will join hands to launch a new initiative to fight e-waste in the region. The five-year initiative will focus on setting up national e-waste management strategies at all the member countries by providing necessary technical support and funding.

The project has already started last year, by setting up e-waste academy for managers in Costa Rica. Experts have been hired in all other participating countries to launch the project nationally, by formulating strategies suiting each country’s need. The strategies will provide clear guidelines for collection and disposal of e-waste, in addition to strengthening of existing facilities. The project will upgrade some of the existing facilities so as to handle persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in electronic waste.
