Ineos, Ferroro Join Hands for Advanced Packaging Recycling Solutions

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Germany-based Ineos Styrolution and Ferrero-the Italian manufacturer of chocolates and confectionary products have entered into an agreement to explore innovative and advanced recycling options for packaging. The two companies will focus on latest recycling concepts including depolymerization.

According to press release from Ineos, it aims to develop a process to convert complex plastic scrap into fully recyclable materials that could be used for making different packaging solutions including food packaging. The concept, based on depolymerisation technique, promises to contribute to a circular economy. The new partnership will explore opportunities for future packaging solutions, at a higher scale than what is available presently.

Ferroro noted that it is pleased to work with Ineos Styrolution in designing a circular solution that would support the company’s previously announced goal of making all of its packaging 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

Sven Riechers, vice president of business management, standard business EMEA at Ineos Styrolution expressed the pleasure in working with Ferrero. The chemical recycling process could help to produce high-quality recycled plastics, reduce postconsumer waste and save valuable raw materials.
