Mrs. Lydia Essuah, Director- Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation admitted that e-waste management in the country is largely dominated by the informal sector, which utilizes crude and unconventional methods to recover valuable materials from disposed e-waste. The non-sustainable system poses threat to environment and health risks. Consequently, the government has decided to formulate necessary policies and enter into tie-ups with developed countries in addressing the issue.
The project hopes to start by collecting mixed batteries at Agbogbloshie by mid-April this year.
