Councillor hails the crackdown on unlicensed scrap metal dealers

CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): New regulations to crack down on unlicensed scrap metal dealers have been hailed a success by East Staffordshire Borough Council.

The new law has seen a licensing system introduced for scrap metal dealers to make them verify that the metal they are buying is from legal sources.

It means that anyone running a business as a scrap metal dealer, whether a site or a collector, must be licensed by their local council.

Borough councillor Sonia Andjelkovic said: "We hope to clean up the scrap metal industry in East Staffordshire and protect our community, businesses and reputable dealers from rogues and thieves who cause such damage, distress and disruption."
