Telecom major launches massive mobile phone recycling initiative

MANILA (Scrap Monster): Globe Telecom, widely known as Globe, has launched the biggest mobile phone recycling initiative in the Philippines. The program aims to promote environment sustainability and generate awareness among public on safe disposal of electronic waste.

The program titled “Project 1 Phone’ campaign will accept wide range of used electronics including old mobile phone devices and batteries, damaged tablets and personal computers. Globe will also educate the public in how to dispose their used electronic devices in the best possible way, without causing harm to environment and lives.

The telecom provider will collect the electronic waste through its participating stores. The devices and accessories thus collected will be forwarded to TES-AMM-the global e-waste recycling service provider. In turn, TES-AMM will recycle the gadgets to recover precious metals and plastics.The proceeds of the campaign will be utilized towards construction of infrastructure facilities to schools in Aklan area. The telecom major has committed to build at least 40 school buildings through this campaign.

Each donated gadget entitles the donor to one raffle entry. A monthly draw will be held and the winner will get an iPad Air. Schools, establishments, local governments and other non-governmental organizations who are interested to be part of the campaign are requested to mail to bridgecom@globe.com.ph.
