Florida Chapter of the National Waste and Recycling Association Honors Legislators of the Year

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): In conjunction with its statewide legislative meetings, the Florida Chapter of the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is honoring three state legislators as “Legislators of the Year” for their support of the Florida waste and recycling industry.

Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) is being recognized for his continued commitment to the Natural Gas Vehicle Fleet Rebate Program. This program allows both public and private entities to apply for rebates to purchase or convert vehicles to natural gas. Nationally, the waste and recycling industry has been leading the way in the adoption of the use of clean natural gas vehicles, and in Florida NWRA members have been able to benefit from this program as they convert their fleets to natural gas. Senator Simpson is a longtime supporter of the waste and recycling industry in Florida and has been honored previously by the NWRA Florida Chapter as “Legislator of the Year.”

Representative Halsey Beshears (R-Monticello) is being recognized for filing legislation to end public records abuse. His legislation, which passed in 2016, will help protect private company

information. NWRA believes private companies should be protected from the unnecessary and invasive revealing of company information from third party companies and entities.

Representative David Santiago (R-Deltona) is being recognized for filing legislation during the 2016 session to help ensure fair competition between public and private service providers. NWRA believes there should be a level playing field when it comes to public and private entities competing to provide services. Special districts are beginning to expand beyond their county boundaries to provide services that a private company should be providing.
