Apple announces expansion of Reuse and Recycling Program in the US and Canada

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster):  Apple Inc. has announced expansion of its Reuse & Recycling Program in the US and Canada. Customers could now earn In-Store credits on return of a wider range of products including iPad. The credits obtained while recycling old products could be used for purchasing new devices.

Until now, Apple accepted only iPhone models in its Reuse and Recycling Program. The customers were allowed to use the credits to purchase new iPhone products only. But as per the new announcement, the company will accept either an iPad or an iPhone for recycling and the credits thus obtained can be utilized towards purchase of any product.

Apple announced that it has decided to expand the program to include all devices, regardless of their condition. As part of the initiative, the company will henceforth accept broken or older Apple products throughout Canada and the US, at no charge.

The expansion is part of Earth Day celebrations. It has also decided to power all its offices, stores and data centers with renewable energy sources such as biogas, wind, solar and hydro-electric power, in an effort to reduce pollution. Apple plans to go greener by making use of alternative energy sources and sending lesser electronic waste to landfills.
