SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of April this year.
China topped the list, with the country’s output recording modest decline by 7.2% over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output totalled 85.9 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first four months of the current year totalled 343.7 Mt, marginally lower by 3.0% over the corresponding period a year before.

India’s estimated output, at 12.1 Mt, recorded notable surge by 3.6% over April 2023. The country produced 49.5 Mt of steel during Jan-Apr ’24. The Japanese output inched lower by 2.5% during the month to total 7.1 Mt, while its cumulative yearly output until April this year was down by 1.2% over the prior year to total 28.5 Mt.
The U.S. produced 6.7 Mt of steel, down by 2.8% when compared with the prior year. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.2 Mt, modestly lower by 5.7% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (5.1), Germany (3.4), Turkiye (2.8), Brazil (2.7) and Iran (2.7).
Among the top ten steel producing nations, Iran recorded highest dip in steel output during the month, falling significantly by 12.3% year-on-year. On the other hand, German output surged the most, recording 6.4% jump year-on-year.
