SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The scrap trade data published by various countries exhibited mixed trend during the month of September.
The trade statistics published by South Korea indicates that the country imported a total of 320,000 tons of scrap in September. This is higher by 12.6% from the previous month, but down by almost 25% compared with the same month a year before. The largest scrap supplier was Japan, followed by Russia and the U.S. The imports from Japan totalled almost 250,000 tons. The country’s scrap imports dropped by a third to total approximately 3.32 million during the initial nine-month period of the year.

Meantime, Vietnam imported a total of nearly 486,000 tons of scrap in September 2020. The imports surged higher by nearly one-third over the previous year.
As per government trade data, Taiwan’s scrap imports totalled around 229,000 tons in September, falling by 36% from the prior year month. The U.S. accounted for 108,000 tons, down by 26% year-on-year. The country imported around 2.7 million tons during the initial nine-month period of the year.
The statistics published by the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) suggests nearly 76% surge in scrap exports. The exports totalled 97,000 tons and 62,000 tons during Sep ’20 and Jan-Sep ’20 respectively. The primary export destinations were India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
