SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The preliminary data published by the International Copper Study Group (ICSG) suggests that world copper mine production declined marginally by almost 0.5% in the initial eight-month period of the current year.
The concentrate production remained essentially unchanged during this period, whereas the SX-EW production declined by 1.5%, when compared with Jan-Aug ’18. The output growth in several small countries was more than offset by production declines in major producing countries.

Lower copper head grades and production disruption early in the year impacted production in Chile- the world’s largest copper mine producing country. The output by the country recorded mar4ginal year-on-year decline by 0.5%. The Indonesian mine output collapsed by almost 51%. The aggregated production in the DRC and Zambia was down by 2%. Meantime, production in a few major copper mine producing countries such as Australia, China, Mexico, Peru and the U.S. increased.
Region-wise, North America clocked 3.6% surge in copper mine output. The Latin American and Oceania region output was up by 1.3% and 8% respectively. On the contrary, it declined by 7% in Asia, 1.2% in Africa and 2.5% in Europe.
