WGC Unveils India's First Precious Metals Assaying Institute

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Gold Council (WGC), in partnership with MMTC-PAMP India Pvt. Ltd., announced the launch of ‘Precious Metals Assay and Training Institute’ (PMATI) in Mumbai. PMATI, the first such institute in India, targets to train and develop a young generation of skilled assayers in the country.

PMATI, located at the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ), was inaugurated by Mr. C.B. Singh, Additional Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards. The institute will commence its first batch on November 24th. PMATI will charge INR 15,000 as fee for the one-month course. The 30-day long basic certification course covers major topics such as Fire Assay methods of analysis of gold and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). It also plans to start new courses with longer duration in future. The courses will be conducted as per curriculum set by an independent committee.

Commenting on the launch of PMATI, Aram Shishmanian, Chief Executive Officer, WGC stated that the institute will play key role in improving trust and transparency in the Indian gold market. PMATI will create a cadre of talented and qualified assayers, he added. Meantime, Arjun Raychaudhuri, Managing Director of MMTC-PAMP noted that the institute is a major step towards building state-of-the-art infrastructure that provides 100% assurance to customers on the quality and source of the precious metal.

PMATI is supported by all leading bullion trade associations in the country.
