SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The list of top global lumber companies remained largely unchanged, as on December 2021, though with a few exceptions. The survey of sawmill capacities by mills suggests that there are 26 companies with lumber capacities in excess of 1.6 million cubic metres.
The top six companies in the list have lumber capacities more than 5 million cubic metres. The first in the list is West Fraser Timber, which happens to be the world’s largest OSB producer as well. In second and third place are Canfor and Weyerhaeuser respectively. The recent acquisition of EACOM Timber and four mills from Georgia-Pacific makes Interfor the fourth largest lumber company in the world. In fifth place is Sierra-Pacific. Stora Enso, with capacity of 5.38 million cubic metres occupies the sixth spot.

Austria-headquartered binderholz recorded the biggest jump in ranks, with capacity of 4.8 million cubic metres. It must be noted that the company had recently acquired its major competitor in Russia, Inter Forest Rus LLC.
50% of the top 26 companies are north America-based with three of the top four based in Vancouver, BC. Also, eight of these companies own mills in Canada and the U.S. The combined capacities of the top 26 companies represented just over one-fourth of the total global lumber production in 2020.
