U.S. Steel Sustainability Report Spotlights Investments in Advanced Steelmaking

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) issued its 2021 Sustainability Report, which highlights the company’s continued investments in sustainable and advanced steelmaking technologies. The report outlines significant progress in areas of environmental, social and governance.

The company made notable progress towards achieving its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by recording 18% reduction from 2018 baseline to 2021. U.S. Steel recycled 73% more scrap steel in 2021, compared to the year before that. The year marked completion of acquisition of Big River Steel- the only LEED-certified steelmaking facility in the country.

In addition, the company earned several top recognitions during the year. It was recognized by Ethisphere as one of the 2022 World’s Most Ethical Companies. Also, it achieved a perfect score by the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index for the third year in a row.

David B. Burritt, U. S. Steel President & Chief Executive Officer noted that he is excited about the significant progress the company continues to make on its sustainability goals.
