U.S. Steel Shipments Dipped in First Quarter 2021

The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 22.106 million net tons during the initial three-month period of the year.

U.S. Steel Shipments Dipped in First Quarter 2021

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly steel shipment data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) suggests notable surge during the month of March this year compared with the previous month. Also, the shipments increased marginally over the same month a year before.

According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.950 million net tons in March 2021. This is significantly higher by 18.0% from the shipments of 6.735 million net tons in the previous month. The shipments during the month recorded marginal increase by 1.9% from the corresponding month a year before. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 7.802 million net tons in March last year.

The report provides month-on-month comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products. The shipments of hot rolled sheets surged higher significantly by 18% from February 2021. The shipments of cold rolled sheet surged higher by 17%, whereas those of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip recorded 16% month-on-month surge.

The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 22.106 million net tons during the initial three-month period of the year. This is down significantly by 8.30% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 24.110 million net tons during Jan-Mar ’20.
